4 more days of finals and I'm done! whee

I spent most of last week sleeping in my room then panicking at dinnertime. and having to cover two semesters worth of material by the end of the night. yay. but then I wake up in the morning, take my exam, and come back to my hostel... and continue sleeping. anddd repeat.

so anyway! we're going to penang after finals! then we're coming down to genting! after that we're going to relay for life to volunteer although we paid registration fees and stuff.

don't ask me why volunteers have to pay. I also tak tau.

Relay for Life is this event supporting cancer research, a through-the-night relay involving cancer survivors and everyone supporting the fight against cancer. it's going be amazing - to remember all whom we personally have lost but at the same time look at what a bit of faith and hope can do. people coming together.

(unless it rains and my tent collapses lah)

Do join us at Majlis Sukan Negara, Bukit Jalil on the 29th May @ 4pm.

see you there! =)

post-edit: I didn't even have a tent. We slept on the bleachers.

hello! I am on holiday from now until next year.
this is a picture post!

Terry Fox Run!
31.10.2009

#1 Onwards!

#2 Wait. This doesn't look right.

#3 My Terry Fox gang. <3
They made me walk the 5km route!
jason jun wen chuen hoe yoong chieh sylvester I had a great time. Thank you for waiting. =)

#4 Then halfway through we decided to detour to istana! Because we are sesat people.

#5 This is a father and his kid. The kid is happily whizzing along on roller blades. The father terpaksa walk carrying his kid's shoes.

Shout-out to Syn Dee, who was volunteering on the day! and who nearly went deaf from rapid, continuous whistle blowing.

Shout-out to my parents, who drove me there, walked together and ended up finishing way earlier.

I loved the Terry Fox Run. Loved the atmosphere, loved that so many people could come together for a cause, loved that we could get up early on a sunday morning to walk together. For cancer research, you all. A great cause. =)

see you 2010!

Random INTEC pictures, in non-choronological order:

#6 Yew Chong, fake proposing to Xiao Qi with a pasar malam ring and flowers for an english presentation. As soon as this started, every handphone/camera in the class simultaneously appeared.

A few days later, JPA reps talked to us seriously about the dangers of marriage during study. 'cannot simply get married!' When mentioned to Yew Chong later, he had forgotten that he ever proposed. Then he wondered what happened to the ring.

#7 A very sweet photo of Yew Chong, his second birthday cake in class and Q-En.

#8 I think this malay guy in blue is super good looking but none of my female malay classmates seem to agree. (I don't THINK he reads this blog. Haha.)

#9 My classmates seem to like gathering around stuff. This is some of them, gathered around Pn. Siva after Bio. Needless to say, Pn. Siva cannot be seen.

 #10 I made Amira a balloon poodle!
(Does anyone know where to buy the can-make-into-shapes balloons? I'm looking for them.)

#11 Steamboat! In our hostel, on Yin Li's birthday. It was good. =)

#12 Avinash and Joo Howe, dueting Apologise on the piano. Joo Howe very pro, no need to look at piano. Joo Howe will also kill me if he ever sees this. =/

#13 Sarah's piano playing is <3.

#14 This is a Daphnia. It is NOT CUTE. Whoever said it was cute was wrong.

Anyway, a Daphnia is a water flea, except it's not really a flea. It comes from UK, and it costs RM50 per Daphnia. We put it in caffeine and count its heartbeats for biology lab. Unfortunately its heart is very special and can stop beating halfway one. Also it will die in the middle of the experiment if you are not careful. Krishant killed 2 of them.

We named our Daphnias and amazingly enough, they mimcked their owners! Jo Ann Daphnia liked coffee, Sarah Daphnia flopped about the cavity slide. Ju Vern Daphnia allowed us to FINALLY collect enough readings to complete the experiment. Whee. We were last out of the lab.

#15 Microscope and lab coats!

#16 Oh that day someone told me about this research that needed DNA samples so I went to donate my DNA with Azim! So my DNA is now floating around somewhere on this sheet of paper, to be PCR-ed and what not. It was for a forensic masters student, who wanted to create something for racial profiling. She asked us to go find Indians for her, because she needed to find more Indian DNA samples. =/

#17 That day I was in the library! Falling asleep over bio! Then this fire alarm started ringing and this man started running around yelling for us to take our handphones and wallets and GET OUT!

so I blurly stood there, looked around, packed my stuff, and wandered to the stairs. Met Ming Ying there, who grumbled 'I was sleeping!' Everybody was running down the stairs - amazing how many people can fit in the library. There was this man videotaping the whole scene beside me. Haha. Then we all had to stand in the rain and watch these pegawai keselamatan do their thing.

This is INTEC. You really don't want to chase people out of the library in INTEC. =/

#18 Anyway, they had their fire safety drill and they abseiled off the second floor of the library. Then they chose a student and had him cling to a safety officer who abseiled. Then one dude abseiled upside down. Seriously though, if the library catches fire we are supposed to abseil?

#19 This is my math lecturer, teaching us in a very pretty conference room. Yeah, I take math and stats as extra subjects but I think the whole semester long, I only attended like, 5 hours of class each? Whee. Anyway, Pn. Yap gave us four siao people extra class before the exam. Super nice of her.

#20 Oh I must tell you about my Physics teacher, Mr. Cheong, who taught us for SIX STRAIGHT HOURS the last day of the semester. That is dedication, people. He was fulfilling a promise to finish discussing all our tutorials. <3

But halfway through, we stopped and had a class party. We gave him cake! The cake was walnut and delicious! also, really cheap. I was impressed.

randomly

*

guess what melissa and I did?

I wrote on her facebook wall. A few minutes later she knocked on my door.

WE ARE SO WEIRD.

*

I love having the house to myself. I figure that's why I'm still awake.

Either that or old habits just die hard. I have physics in the morning later. And then should I go home?

*

I am so restless.

Picture Post!

#1 ahh. I miss Meow when I'm gone.

#2 Scones I made and brought back for my housemates. No, my house did not explode in the making. Yes, the scones were good.

#3 My wonderful physics group + This super cool electronic timer. It's awesome. I wanted to bring it home!

#4 Physics apparatus to test projectile motion. It shoots this heavy metal ball at people! Scary.

#5 Chem model of a double bond. People glanced at it and passed it on. I took photo. Haha.

#6 Bio beetroot experiment. We screwed up the experiment and got horrible results. I wrote a 3k word report on it.

We lined up the dye solutions from all the water baths and took a photo - it looked AMAZING. I don't have the photo though.

During the experiment, Kee Chun decided he'd eat the beetroot. He came to our table, one hand holding the beetroot, the other hand brandishing a knife, his teeth stained red, saying 'This beetroot is very good! Very tasty!' while waving the knife in front of him. Pn. Siva stared. And told him, 'Normally we don't eat things in the lab.'

#7 Have you ever wondered how labs have a constant supply of distilled water? Meet the water distiller.

#8 Morgan & Kee Chun doing my Math. Parti stoning in background.

Gosh I get sooo moody when I cannot do Math. Just ask the people I complained to.

#9 Mr. Affuan, my ethics lecturer. He's so brilliant and funny lah. He shows us 15Malaysia videos. And vidoes of the cow head controversy, and people whom he says do not practice 'true Islam'. I like him.

#10 Jo Ann Sarah Ju Vern Rita

We took this photo after a photo-taking marathon where we made everybody where red/white! One of the photos I LOVED won the class potrait photography competition and now 10M4 has a prize hamper to share out! Hopefully it's not lost; last I heard nobody knew where it was.

#11 Physics Class with Mr. Cheong
(Friday. Note the baju kurungs.)

#12 Guess what we do in Physics class? (Credits to my crazy relative, Xiao Qi.)

#13 This utterly hilarious Physics questions about cliff divers. Mr Cheong started talking about Elvis Presley. Don't ask.

Eh photo's blur. Boo. I'm damn proud of my diagram. I drew it.

#14 Siew Ai is teaching me to play chess! EXCITED. This is the four knights opening, demonstrated by Pek, the-really-tall-guy.
(They're both national chess players. I swear, INTEC has any kind of person you want.)

#15 Paying money after dinner at a Thai Fusion Restaurant where we buka-d puasa. I fasted! It was cool! I woke up early and ate bread and drank water then puasa the whole day and I wasn't hungry! Haha.

The smiling guy in the photo? He's so nice kay. He bought hari raya cards for all the Malays in the class!
(Unrelated but funny: If he took my surname, his chinese name would be 游泳聪 whee!)

#16 HAHAHA.

That is a pendulum.

Rita: It's swinging.
Ju Vern: Apparently if it goes in a circle, it's a boy and if it goes side-to-side, it's a girl.
Rita: Yes LET'S TRY!

Result:
Jo Ann 2 sons Eileen 1 son 1 daughter
Kee Chun no children.

I explained this to Hafiz and Syahiran because they were 'wth are these kids laughing about.'

Hafiz: Is this... scientific?
Syahiran: Kee Chun pendulum tak bergerak hahaha.

#17 My darlings Naqiah Zu Amira. and Azim because I dragged him there!

Selamat Hari Raya y'all. =D

okay let me tell you what I did last week.

after one glorious week of holidays, I went back to akasia and lepak-ed (and mopped the kitchen floor) and discovered that I didn't bring my namecard!

yay. now for taylor's people who can just walk in and out without their namecard, you should know that intec doesn't really function that way. we have scary, x-ray vision guards.

unfortunately they don't look like cyclops

anyway, I wore zipped up jackets to hide the lack-of-namecard-ness and walked past the guards for a day but then on wednesday, this intec guard stopped me. I still don't understand how he knew I wasn't wearing one! super x-ray vision.

so he asked for my namecard and I acted blur and started looking in all my bags and then finally said, in a very horrified manner, 'HILANG LAH.'

then I went to the 'pejabat keselamat' which is actually the guard's pretty little pondok and reported the loss. they were very concerned, wrote me a paper, and even told me 'you balik rumah cari, dan kalau takda juga pergi buat yang baru'.

intec's front gate

all the time I knew exactly where the namecard was. so I smiled, looked concerned, and thanked them. then walked away laughing.

so anyway conclusion:
if you forget to wear your nametag, it's GRRR. SAMAN.
if you hilangkannya, it's BALIK RUMAH CARI.

=D

(jason says I have very bad luck with cards. I'm not sure why we came to that conclusion, but I'm beginning to think it's true.)

nothing particulary interesting happened after, except class rep declaring that he liked physics, and no, he would not ask/beg/bribe mr. cheong to cancel class so we could go home early.

we went home early.

I am constantly surrounded by the country's most brilliant students.

Who are all going to become doctors.

Sometimes I think no need to wait till med school. This two years will drive us all mad.

***

So anyway, sometimes I think I have no damn right to be a JPA scholar.

Also, woah - this peer pressure thing? Really gets to you.

I'm not sure whether it's a form of motivation, or passive aggresiveness.

But I really do understand this constant need to study.

(I don't think I've ever studied this much in my entire life.)

It's this specter of JPA will take away your scholarship hanging over you.

And the endlessfear of being not good enough.

I have ice lemon tea and cheese naan and INTERNET here at al-Rafi's bistro. Happyyy.

Thank you, al-Rafi, whoever you may be. =)

Randomly,

Bio lab report on vitamin C supposed to be in the process but I just spent 1 hour procrastinating.

Taylorians beware. Heard there's a case of H1N1 over at Subang campus.

Now I have a mosquito net over my bed. You should so see it. It looks so charming. Haha. Unfortunately I can NEVER find the opening without causing holes to open all over the place.

You know the rumour that you can check your MyKad on your astro decoder? Don't. Even. Try.

30 Hour Famine, people?

#1 INTEC, at 7 in the morning.

#2 One of my three baju kurung, mandatory formal wear for Mondays and Fridays. Apparently this one looks like seaweed.

#3 Four of the five guys in my class. ALM10M4 is a floating class and so no, that is not our motto.

#4 Four of the twenty girls in my class. Pictured here being super talented with music.

#10 This is my classmate's desk!

#11 What my desk looks like now.

#12 This and a bowling alley are the only forms of entertainment found in Shah Alam.
